START
PILOT #4 - A night of raw and untested material from regional
theatre and performance companies, with post-show pizza.
It's
good to say you were there at the beginning of something.
It's even better to say that you helped make it
Wed
23 July - 7:00pm
Sozzled Sausage
Regent St, Leamington Spa
After
a sell-out back in April at the Pump Rooms, the unique regional
performance night, PILOT returns to Leamington for the fourth
time.
PILOT aims to provide a space where artists and performance
companies in the West-Midlands can develop their own practice
in an informal and supportive atmosphere.
Theatre, live-art, multi-media, scripted, devised or directed
and no matter how rough round the edges - PILOT is a platform
for any new work in need of an audience.
A host of diverse, new work will be performed by artists from
across the West-Midlands, including Suzanne Cantwell and Babyslave.
Suzanne is an experienced choreographer who has only recently
arrived in Coventry from America. She will be showing a solo
section from a larger work entitled "Mrs. Someone",
and is looking forward to showing her work for the first time
in the UK.
Babyslave is a new project from Birmingham featuring
Hypnotique, a multi-instrumentalist and leading thereminist
plus electronic processing by a member of the experimental
music project Carya Amara. Babyslave will be incorporating
audience's interjections and responses into their music through
electronic processing and the response of acoustic and etherwave
instruments.
There aren't many rules about what can go on, as long as the
work isn't finished! PILOT aims to provide a space where regional
artists are free to experiment and try out new ideas on a
willing audience. Always lively and unexpected, PILOT is the
place to come to watch the beginnings of the theatre and performances
of tomorrow.
But the night doesn't just end when the lights go down on
the last act. May be there's something you would have done
differently? Or perhaps you think your favourite bits need
developing further? Well, the pizza has been ordered, the
bar remains open and the performers want to hear everything
you have to say in order to help them develop their work.
So don't just sit back and watch
watch and feed-back,
eat pizza and party! When the talking stops the music begins
and goes on until midnight, with DJ's from Leamington's Music
Room laying down their unpredictable and compelling mix of
classic and contemporary beats.
PILOT continues to go from strength to strength thanks to
the generous and continuing support of Warwick Arts Centre.
Neil Darlison, Events Director, Warwick Arts Centre commented:
"Warwick Arts Centre is delighted to be able to support
an initiative which encourages and develops the region's theatre-makers,
dancers, film-makers, writers and so on. It is exciting and
rewarding to be able to see and encourage the artists and
art-forms of tomorrow."
The next PILOT event will be held in another local venue at
the end of October. Anyone requiring further information,
or interested in performing material should contact The Wrong
Crowd at admin@thewrongcrowd.co.uk or call on 01926 421497.
